1 Samuel
David wants to serve God, not the king. This is one of the primary differences between David and Saul. David looked to the Lord for guidance and obeyed. Saul tried to use every opportunity to promote himself into a better position. As we’ll see, David is even willing to
1 Samuel
When we walk away from God and irrationally try to solve our own problems, self-destruction is the ultimate outcome. It is one thing to try and solve our own problems through our own understanding. At least that still involves rational thought. Responding irrationally to situations while believing in a

Godly people want life to be about God. He deserves the credit and the glory. God makes all things possible. David and Jonathan become instant friends. This is good for David, because Johnathan is Saul’s son and it will bring notoriety and skill to his life. This is bad
1 Samuel
God inspires the seemingly impossible. David slays Goliath using a single stone through a one-in-a-million strike with his sling. David fulfills his promise to cut off the head of Goliath even though he brought no sword into the battle with him. Who would have guessed Goliath would
1 Samuel
We cannot lose when we fight God’s battle as His implement in His hand. Easier said than done, of course. Before fighting God’s battle, we need to discern God’s will. Then we need to accept God’s outcome, which is probably different than our own. Finally, we

1 Samuel
God is powerful enough to use our rebellion to further His will even when we are determined to give Him no other choice. We think we know better. We can dig in our heels and resist. We can run away like Jonah. But we cannot prevent God’s will even
1 Samuel
It takes time for us to understand what lies within someone else, which is why our first impressions are often incorrect. We use our external senses to make first impressions, primarily our sight and our hearing. While these are useful tools for situational awareness, they are not the best tools
1 Samuel
Following God’s plan doesn’t need to be as controversial as we originally consider. It is easy to assume doing God’s work implies conflict with the world. God’s agenda is different than the worldly agenda, so conflict can occur. But conflict is not mandatory. Sometimes conflict between
